The Mental Health Resource Center (MHRC) was established in 2017 in the Jam Sawali area of Sausar block, Pandhurna district, Madhya Pradesh, after years of persistent advocacy with the officials of the Hanuman Temple. This centre represents a significant milestone in our on-going mission to support individuals with psycho-social disorders (PwPDs) and create an inclusive society for them.
Our Mission
MHRC aims to provide comprehensive mental health support and resources to the local community, ensuring that individuals with psycho-social disorders have access to the care they need. By offering free treatment and medications through an outpatient psychiatric treatment clinic, MHRC strives to reduce the stigma associated with mental illness and promote mental well-being.
Program Approach
GASVS has been instrumental in the successful implementation of MHRC. Our approach involves:
-
- Advocacy and Collaboration: After years of advocacy, we succeeded in persuading the state government to establish a psychiatric outpatient clinic. This collaboration ensures that individuals receive free, high-quality mental health care.
- Community Outreach: MHRC employs dedicated staff members who engage directly with clients, building rapport with visitors to the Hanuman Temple. They provide essential information on mental health, guide individuals on how to access free treatment services, and work to prevent any violations against those seeking help.
- Sensitization and Education: Our team actively sensitizes local communities to reduce stigma surrounding mental illness. By conducting educational sessions and advocacy campaigns, we empower community members to become advocates for mental health.
Our Impact
Since its inception, MHRC has made a tangible impact on the community:
-
- Increased Access to Care: Hundreds of individuals have accessed free psychiatric treatment and medications, significantly improving their quality of life.
- Stigma Reduction: Our outreach efforts have led to a noticeable decrease in the stigma associated with mental illness in the local community. More people are now willing to seek help and support their loved ones in doing so.
- Community Support: MHRC has fostered a supportive environment where individuals with psycho-social disorders feel understood and accepted. Our sensitization programs have empowered local communities to act as mental health advocates.
