Program was started way back during the period from 1985 to 1990 as the outreach activity of Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment for providing the comprehensive services to the people with disabilities Background and area. Later on the program was converted in to the scheme under the SIPDA Act 1995. The program seeks to build the infrastructure and develop the capacities of the village level functionaries on the issues of the people with disabilities, create awareness among the community and provide life skill training to the PwDs so that they can be rehabilitated in to main stream society
Program is being implemented in Naxal affected Sukma district of Chhattisgarh State in collaboration with Social Welfare Department through District Management Unit headed by the District Collector Sukma. This Center receiving Financial Support from Essar Foundation. In Sukma district, the identified PwDs are 1618 amongst the total population of 2.5 Lakhs.
The key services provided by DDRC include:
- Awareness and counseling services to the PwDs and their families.
- Education services for the cognitive and social development of PwDs
- Physiotherapy and occupational therapy services to reduce the limitation and restriction of disability among the PwDs
- Developing convergence and linkages with the government schemes and programs.
